Trials Evolution: Origin of Pain looks awesome. Like trade-in-your-AAA-title-for-MSP awesome. But for all that awesome the details of what it contains haven’t been highly publicized. Sure, everyone’s covered the obligatory “Here’s an announcement” post, but most of those didn’t go into much detail as to what the DLC will actually contain. We did some digging, and here’s what we know so far. There’s also a screenshot gallery and a summary at the bottom of the preview, so be sure to hit the jump for all the dirt.
Origins of Pain takes place on an all-new island–one that is 4km x 4km in size. It’s massive. By comparison the island that was shipped with the game is only 2km x 4km. We’re getting double the sandbox. Twice the playground. Two times the… well, you get the point. 36 new Trials tracks challenge players on this massive battlefield, and RedLynx once again shows us just what the in-game editor can do with a little imagination. Settings span from a circus to an aircraft graveyard. And it won’t be just Trials tracks. 10 new Supercross courses and an unknown number of Skill Games will be included. One image given to select press showed the rider grappling along a la Bionic Commando. Hold your girlish squeals in. There’s more.
Just when you thought you’ve crashed enough, Trials Evolution delivers a new DLC pack which brings the pain. The Origin of Pain DLC pack gives you a tour of Pain Island spanning 36 new single-player tracks. The new BMX dirtbike will help you traverse the island’s many landmarks, including a temple, volcano, and haunted circus. Single player isn’t the only mode getting expanded; multiplayer will gain 10 new tracks, and the editor will receive new features including guns, switches, and vector math. The DLC will be available next month for 400 MSP.
RedLynx has already packed a lot of great tracks into Trials Evolution, but they’re not stopping there. The Face Your Insanity track will baffle and astound as the track constantly …

I have to sort through these tracks every day looking for the best of the best, and I’ve got years of video game modding experience under my belt in games ranging from open-source racing to Star Wars titles. While I’ll leave the specifics on Trials Evo track creation to the experts I still want to share five tips that will help you become a better editor. Who knows? You might be come a RedLynx Pick, or even a top download for the week.

DLC has been promised. Though we’re more than satisfied with the game’s default content and the endless supply available via Track Central we’re still itching for more. But what are they going to put in? We’ve got some ideas, and even a name: the Nitro Pack, inspired from RedLynx’s own Monster Trucks Nitro.
