By  •  June 5, 2011

Have you ever played a game before the HD revolution so beautiful that you considered it a work of art? Would you want that work of art remastered for the current generation of consoles? The debate will never cease, but memories of titles worthy of remastering keep pouring in.

Elemental Gimmick Gear is a hand-drawn action RPG that was originally destined for the Sega Saturn until publisher Hudson decided to switch gears and release it for the much more powerful Sega Dreamcast. Now, more than ten years from its original release, EGG deserves to reach a new audience of gamers.

Hydrophobia Prophecy coming to PC, PSN with XBLA fate unknown

By  •  April 27, 2011

Dark Energy Digital has confirmed the rumors surrounding their upcoming game, Hydrophobia Prophecy, which is coming to PC and PlayStation 3. In response to fan inquiries about an XBLA version, Dark Energy responded with the following via their Twitter account. “We’d love to bring Prophecy to XBLA, the ultimate decision is with Microsoft so fingers crossed.”

Prophecy is best described as a reimagining of the original Hydropbobia. Sources close to XBLA fans say that around 70 percent of the game is new. Among the new features included are an expanded story with a proper ending, a new hydro-kenetic power for the protagonist Kate, and a new voice actor for Scoot, a character that helps Kate through the game.

Here’s hoping Microsoft doesn’t miss out on the chance to publish this, but given that console companies love their exclusive content we’re not holding our breath. In the meantime we recommend everyone give Hydrophobia Pure on XBLA a spin, even if they’ve tried out the game previously. The Pure title update includes a lot of the gameplay mechanic-based updates seen in Prophecy. While the original Hydrophobia received mixed reviews from critics, the Pure patch fixed a plethora of complaints. Hit the jump to see the press release and a list of changes.

Why HD remakes matter

By  •  April 7, 2011

Gamers usually fall into one of the two following categories: those who sing and praise HD remakes as if they are gold covered in chocolate, and those who compare the HD remakes to the excessive milking of a cow. I tend to fall in the gold category, and for good reason—HD remakes are positive for both the gaming industry and gamers.

Wrecked: Revenge Revisited visiting earlier than expected

By  •  March 22, 2011

Wrecked: Revenge Revisited was initially slated for a Summer release, but 505 Games has up-shifted to a Spring release for their follow up to Super Sonic Games’ 2004 car combat hit, Mashed. Wrecked will join the likes of TNT Racers and Scrap Metal in the ever-growing list of XBLA car combat games, bringing with it some features unique to the series.

Players will enjoy plenty of customization options for their vehicles as well as an awesome revenge mechanic allowing wrecked racers to thank their destroyer with an aerial strike- of love. The carnage will take place across a 24-challenge Championship mode divided into four different racing styles. The XBLA racing style has lends itself well to the offline/online four player setup, and Wrecked: Revenge Revisited will take full advantage of that. Read More
