Trials HD Easter Eggs may add up to something more

By  •  April 5, 2012

The following comes from a contributor who wishes to be simply known as Fatshady. Big thanks to Fatshady and the rest of the Trials HD community for all their hard work!

Every time I meet someone who has played or even heard of Trials HD, I mention the “Trials HD Riddle”. The entire story about it I find totally fascinating, largely due tot he fact that the riddle has remained so well hidden. If you have ever played Trials HD, ask yourself this: Did you know that there were 18 unique Easter Eggs hidden within the tracks? Did you know these all connect to form a riddle that has remained unsolved for over two years? You didn’t? Well read on my friend, you are in for an eye-opening experience.

When I reflect on just about any other game that has a large player base and numerous Easter Eggs, there are countless wiki’s, YouTube videos and walkthroughs on most websites. Trials HD was played by over two million people yet the smallest percentage of them even know that there are secrets hidden amongst the tracks. What is even more astounding is that an even smaller percentage know that all of these combine to form one of the most elusive riddles found within a video game. With the upcoming sequel, Trials Evolution due to be released on April 18, I thought it was appropriate to share this riddle story one final time to ensure that one of the most fascinating aspects of 2009’s ‘Best Overall Game’ is not forgotten about.

Most people simply don’t believe that these clues have remained hidden for so long. I find that it is much easier to show them all so here is a recap of what we have found to date. To bring you up to date with the investigations, let me now go through these one by one and explain what we believe they are. This is a summary of the nearly 50 pages over at the official RedLynx forums regarding the riddle. Read it here

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Castlevania

By  •  January 21, 2012

Castlevania has been a major part of the gaming world for over 20 years, bringing us many a Dracula slaying tale. This story encompasses many families, crosses thousands of years, and tells stories of love, betrayal, power and revenge. Each game delivers a solid story, but some lack the gameplay it takes to keep non-enthusiasts interested. Through out the years Castlevania has appeared on almost every system since the NES, telling one piece or another of this amazing story.

Though this is a huge story encompassing many years and games, it all started with just one game. The basis was simple: every 100 years Dracula comes back from the dead unleashing his evil terror upon the world. You control Simon Belmont, a man who comes from a long line of Vampire hunters. With Dracula awake and doing his worst, Simon sets out to send him back to where he comes from, just like his family members before him have done.

XBLA’s Most Wanted: Need for Speed Challenge

By  •  October 22, 2011

The Need for Speed series seems to be taking a different direction than the one many of us are used to. It’s grittier, more realistic–a far cry from the arcade goodness of games like Hot Pursuit 2 and Most Wanted. While a lot of people have bought in on this it’s still a direction that just as many folks aren’t happy about. Look on forums, in YouTube comments, etc. People are clamoring for the pre-ProStreet games to make a comeback.

That’s why we’ve come up with a synergistic solution: a new title that utilizes older game assets: Need for Speed: Challenge. It’s been done with Need for Speed: World, a MMO racing game that’s exclusive to the PC. It merges the cities from Most Wanted and Carbon together and provides an open-world, role playing-racing experience. Challenge would be something similar: all of the Micheal Bay story elements stripped out. Yep, it’s just raw, adrenaline fueled racing. The difference is that Challenge wouldn’t be an MMO. Rather than a persistent-world game, it would be a single player free roam racer with multiplayer race events.

The ever changing definition of “gamer”

By  •  September 17, 2011

A theme within the gaming industry this generation has been the expansion of who plays video games. Console makers have been looking to draw in a new audience by making games easier to approach and simpler to play. Motion sensors and touch screens are just two of the things we’ve seen this generation that are making it easier for your mom, dad, and little sister to pick up and play video games. But look a bit deeper and you’ll see a trend when it comes to the games themselves as well, and Xbox Live Arcade has something to do with it.

Train Frontier Express review (XBLIG)

By  •  September 14, 2011

Train Frontier Express was developed by Team Train Frontier and released on August 30, 2011 and retails for 240 MSP.  A copy was provided by the developer for review purposes.

So many of us have a childhood love of toy trains.  We let our imaginations run wild with our train sets.  As the train moved along the tracks we would make choo choo noises with our voice.  Sometimes we created fictional disasters that would throw the train off track and have it burst into imaginary flames, but hey, it was all good fun.  If you were one of those kids (including the bout of destruction) then boy is there a video game for you!

Train Frontier Express is one of the titles in the Indie Games Summer Uprising promotion and deservedly so.  Although there really is no “game” here or set of definable goals, it is the closest thing you’ll ever have to a model train simulator on the Xbox 360, and the freedom to share your creations with friends on Xbox Live places this into the top tier category of XBLIG.

Deadliest Warrior Legends: Alexander the Great

Deadliest Warrior: Legends Quick Facts:

  • Alexander inherited from his father the Kingdom of Macedonia, his armies, his treasury, his love of Classical Greek culture and his ambition to unite the world under a single leader.
  • At age 17 Alexander marshaled his own army to put down an uprising by a northern tribe. At age 18 he led the cavalry charge that decided the final battle in the war that won his father all of Greece.
  • By the time of his death at age 33 Alexander of Macedon had conquered the kingdom of Egypt, the Greek states, the Persian Empire and the rest of the known world.
  • Alexander went from being healthy to dead in the span of three days. One theory is that Aristotle poisoned him because Alexander had begun executing people who disagreed with his decisions.
  • Alexander’s tactics, strategies, leadership, application of force, use of surprise, and other methods of war are still studied today in military academies like West Point.
  • Alexander’s companion cavalry was made of about 1800 horsemen. He would routinely ride into the thick of the enemy ranks– sometimes numbering in the tens of thousands.
