Every once in a while, a game comes along with a concept so brilliant you can’t believe no one’s thought of it before. Taking the idea of competitive thievery and applying a fun, cartoonish art style, Dollar Dash from Candygun Games and Kalypso Media seeks to offer a fresh twist on classic arcade gameplay.

Dollar Dash is a top-down action game pitting four thieves against each other in three different game modes with one simple goal: steal everything in sight. You’ll accomplish this task by running, shooting, laying traps, and creating all kinds of general mayhem to grab as much cash as possible and prevent your opponents from doing the same. Built primarily as a multiplayer game, Dollar Dash has no traditional single-player component, but offers four-player competitive modes both locally and over Xbox Live.

Grab for cash in the crazy modes of Dollar Dash

By  •  March 1, 2013

DollarDash

The latest in a series of Dollar Dash promotional trailers from Kalypso Media Digital has surfaced, revealing the frenzied game modes you can expect to find. For the uninitiated, Dollar Dash is a top-down multiplayer action title from Candygun Games, pitting colorful pilferers against one another in a series of high-stakes hijinks to see who can make off with the most cash. Up to this point, we’ve taken a look at a few of the maps in Dollar Dash, the customizable costumes each character can don, and the creative and fun weaponry and gadgets each thief can employ in pursuit of the purse strings.

The chaotic gameplay unfolds in several game modes, showcased in the trailer after the jump. Among them are Save the Safe, in which you’ll use your wits to grab and hold the safe, keeping it out of your opponents’ reach while they try to steal your victory. Hit ‘n’ Run is an all-out brawl where thieves on the offensive must knock out the opposition through any means necessary. Lastly, Dollar Dash mode requires you to outfit an arsenal of crazy gadgetry as you try to pilfer the most cash, stashing it in your getaway car.

Dollar Dash is coming to Xbox Live Arcade next Wednesday, March 6. Be sure to check back with us next week, for our official review.

Dollar Dash debuts custom costumes; terrible disguises

By  •  February 21, 2013

DollarDash_DisguisesProfessional thievery is a risky business. Sometimes you’ve got to blend in, pop on a beaglepuss and saunter away like a mustachioed norm-y. In the case of Dollar Dash, sometimes you’ve got to dress in elaborate costumes, sporting a viking helmet with unkempt beard, or a king’s crown and a pair of stunner-shades. Because prowling the night dressed as a knight is the last thing they’d expect.

While these may not be the best disguises, Kalypso Media Digital has debuted a new trailer revealing the many customizable ensembles in the forthcoming multiplayer title developed by Candygun Games. In Dollar Dash, up to four players will go for broke as would-be thieves, using an array of weapons and hijinks to grab the cash and stump the competition. Check out the Customization trailer after the jump, and expect Dollar Dash to sneak onto Xbox Live Arcade on March 6, for 800 MSP.

Now, we have two new trailers showing them in multiplayer action! Throw thieves off your trail with an identical decoy, or shrug off the shots behind a riot shield. Drop bombs, bear traps, oil slicks, or even a boom box to ensure the perfect getaway. Key word here: frantic. Read More

Dollar Dash developer blog: Creating fun weapons

By  •  October 18, 2012

The following article was written by Andreas Hackel, art director at Candygun.

Today we at Candygun Games would like to present the process of creating weapons in our upcoming game, Dollar Dash. We have been pouring in countless hours as we finish development, so it has been a thrilling experience tinkering with the in-game weapons to pave way for a competitive, yet entertaining for all ages, multiplayer game.

Creating fun weapons

Weapon system in Dollar Dash

Dollar Dash offers a wide range of fun weapons to slow down opponents and steal their money. There are three different categories of weapons and there is a slot for one each per category. Permitting only one action weapon per category has players weighing their options on what is most useful in each scenario – should they use the long-range snowball in effort to free up a slot for the medium range boxing glove, or should they hold onto the snowball to attack from afar? Choices are tough, but the competitive factor always looms. This may be a bit different to what many are used to from other games, but we found out that this system is the most fun for a fast-paced arcade game.

The three different categories have their advantages in combat and defense:

Offensive weapons can be fired or thrown at an opponent in front of the player. Some of them are short-ranged while others encompass the entire level. Most offensive weapons have multiple charges, so testing the effects of each is essential to for the best strategy.

Defensive Weapons can be dropped to the floor to attack opponents in pursuit. Most of them are traps that trigger when someone runs across them. Defensive weapons are superb when playing Save the Safe mode – players can be on the run from the opposition and lie down oil slicks to have players slide off the level or a portable to have opponents falling to their doom.
