Xbox 360 only “halfway through” life cycle due to Kinect
In a recent interview with MCV, VP of Interactive Entertainment Business for Microsoft Europe Chris Lewis stated that the Xbox 360 is about halfway through its full life cycle. He admits that the cycle is fairly irregular thanks to the “shot of adrenaline” provided by Kinect, opening up their market further than before. Particularly with reference to Kinect, he goes on to say that the first year of focus for the new hardware was dedicated to the families and younger demographic that has extended the Xbox 360’s audience. Fortunately, Lewis stresses the fact that Microsoft’s E3 presentation shows more core gaming experiences that are enhanced by Kinect. He wraps up with an assurance that Kinect compatibility will only ever be to a game’s benefit, else they suffer a loss of confidence from the core audience that got the Xbox to where it is now.
